Press Releases, Social Bookmarking, Directory Submissions: Do They Work?

We don’t do press release submissions. We don’t do social bookmarking. We don’t do mass directory submissions.

Why? Because they don’t work anymore.

The Problem with These “Link Building” Tactics

Google figured out years ago that these methods were being used to game the system. The result:

  • Press releases – Links are typically nofollowed. No SEO value.
  • Social bookmarking – Ineffective, time-consuming, often spammy.
  • Directory submissions – Mass submissions to hundreds of directories? Google discredited these links long ago.

The One Exception

The only directory worth submitting to is one that actually ranks well on Google for terms relevant to your business. Think industry-specific directories that real people use – not generic link farms.

If Someone Promises Results from These Tactics

Ask them to prove it. Show actual rankings improvement. Show traffic increases.

If they can’t demonstrate real results, you’ll quickly discover whether you’ve wasted your time and money.

Spoiler: you probably have.
